In the 1970s, Owobo demonstrated his acting talents by portraying Oriadekigbe in his father’s production “Aropin T’Enia” at Glover Hall, Lagos. Hubert Ogunde, his father, altered the name to Ogunde Theater Party in 1947 and Ogunde Concert Party in 1950. Eventually, in 1960, it became Ogunde Theater, a title that endured until his passing in 1990. He’s often hailed as “the father of Nigerian theatre” or “the father of contemporary Yoruba theatre.”
